Both have the numers 6 and 7 in there BGG rating
Both published by rio grand at some time

Both games I haven't played

Both phrases in the Anchorman?

Thats about it, now back to my cyber hole.

Count Zero

Everyone listens to reason.
.......Neal Stephenson....Snowcrash

FIVE

In Odin's Ravens you have fives types of lands to cross: lake, mountain, pasture, snow, and hills.

In Mama Mia there are five types of pizza topping: pepperoni, mushroom, pineapple, green pepper, and olive

Both have the rules translated to English by the Tummelsons, although I guess that's probably true of a lot of Rio Grande games.

- Hugin and Mugin are the names of Odin's Ravens
- Hugin & Mugin is the name of a children's clothing store in Denmark (www.hugin-mugin.com).
- Denmark is the home country of the band Abba who sang the song, "Mamma Mia"

-Jim Carvin

Abba came from Sweden - not Denmark !

It's always been Mamma Mia's greatest weakness that there are no anchovies available as one of the toppings.

Nothing to do with the connection - just an observation.

I've not listened to the show yet but I get a perverse satisfaction from being the first to post.
The wonders of being on the right side of the time zone and your late nights !

Immediate connection that springs to mind is that both games allow you to play your cards in reverse order of stacking. In Mamma Mia this is the central mechanic (the oven) and in Odin's Ravens it is the mechanic for your reserve pile.

Other connection is that, for once, I own both games in question. I'm guessing that in order to set up this connection the pair of you have been checking out my BGG profile. Cyber-stalkers !!!

I once had a Pizza called Valhalla (in Oslo. It was their version of the American Hot).

My daughter's favourite game is , bizarrely, Mamma Mia. And her name (which you know because we have ascertained you are stalking me) is Freya.

And of course, if we know our Norse mythology then we recognise that Freya is cited as receiving half of the dead lost in battle in her hall F

Haven't heard the episode yet, but I have a really obvious connection:

- Odin's ravens bring him information, in Valhalla.
- Valhalla is the name of the graduate student pub at my alma mater, Rice University.
- If you were brave enough to show up at open mike night and play songs from the soundtrack to the Abba show "Mamma Mia", they would kill you.
- Since you were so brave, you'd end up in Valhalla and get to meet Odin's ravens.

Simple!

Odin is a god in Scandinavian folklore/mythology.

Mamma Mia is a song by ABBA, a band from Scandinavia.

Both ABBA and Odin are often associated with Death.

I've not listened to the show either...

Nice, ABBA link. I think that's the winner.

How about facial hair! The guys on the boxes of both games have it.

Hey the connection is that both games are connected to the two games in last episode's back shelf spotlight.

Mamma Mia is a pizza theme from ROMA
Odin's Ravens is based on a religious belief as is BABEL

As Steerpike pointed out, the first thing that comes to mind is both games use a 'programmed stack of cards' mechanic.

What was it...what was it??

Oh yeah. Memory!!

In Mamma Mia, you have to remember the order of cards played to some extent (just based on what youi said in the episode, I sadly haven't played it myself). Plus it won a 2002 Memory Game award, plus Carlos brought this game back into your memory as well (interesting choice of word there).

And in Norse mythology, Odin's Ravens are named Hugin and Munin...or Thought and Memory (all praise be to wikipedia).

So there you go, the connection is memory.

I think. :)

Both games involve eating. Warriors slain in battle get to feast with Odin in Valhalla. Those still alive pick up a pizza.

Both games are played with cards.

Both games have a dude with a hat on the cover.

Dudes with beards and hats, Vikings eating pizza, ABBA, Valhalla, memory, and death.

I love it!

You all constantly prove that your brains are just as warped as ours. Keep it up.
