I'm sure there are some goofs in there somewhere. Let us know if (when?) you find one!

Ok, someone needed to call Dave out on his poking fun of the squirrel game collection - was he serious? :)~

sconway's picture

I guess Dave could say it takes one to know one...

I'm willing to make a Paypal donation to the first podcaster that actually pronounces "Cyclades" correctly !

sconway's picture

I had a professor in college whose main degree was in Classics and he pronounced it as Dave did in the show.

He was a midwesterner like me, so I'll admit iit could be our local dialects trumping proper form. Right or wrong, I'm williing to stick with my robed scholar.

Speaking of pedantry, when I was at uni in Lincolnshire, I went hiking one day trying to find Belvoir Castle. I asked for directions at a local pub and they had no idea where I was talking about. I was saying Bell-VWA (in my best French accent). Finally, someone said, "Oh, do you mean Beaver Castle?"

Yes. Apparently, yes, I did.

Point made. :)

Steerpike's picture

Indeed in Lincolnshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire "Belvior" is pronounced "Beaver"

In Oxford "Magdalene College" is pronounced "More-dlin College"

and on the south coast of england the five "Cinque Ports" (of which there are now seven), which were built to keep the French out, are referred to as the "sink ports" (no irony or pun intended it seems)

but then these are local anglicised place names. If there was a "Cyclades, Indiana" then I'm sure Dave's pronunciation would be ok.

However, I'm presuming that the game is named after the group of islands in Greece.

Anyway, Scott Nicholson has already won the award in BGWS #066 where he expresses similar frustration, this time directed at Mr Vasel.

Great show made even more great by the repeated use of the word Ziggurat.

I kept thinking you were talking about me !

I would agree that Muncipium is a much overlooked area control title. I was surprised at how many tough decisions were packed into this tight little game.

sconway's picture

We thought about adding subliminal Steerpike pictures to the enhanced feed every time we said Ziggurat. Or maybe we did...

I am glad I am not the only one who thinks Municipium is a hidden gem. It's one of Knizia's best efforts in the past few years, I think.

I need to go back and check the feed !
